Why Do You Believe What You Believe?

Are you caught up in what the national news wants you to think and believe or have you formed your own thoughts and opinions? I once had a gym teacher advise me to not believe most of everything I heard and only half of what I read. It opened up my world to so many more possibilities and turned it into a much brighter, positive place.

How lighting a candle will make your day

What can you share, offer, contribute to someone else today? What’s 
holding you back? Are you afraid that you will lose something if you give 
a word of encouragement, a smile, a warm squeeze to someone’s 
shoulder? You won’t lose anything, in fact, your return will only 
increase. When you light a candle with another you go from having the 
light of one to the increased lighting of two! Whatever you give in
 your world today will increase – words can build confidence, 
smiles can turn into laughter, and touch can build strong connection. 
Look for the opportunity and don’t hide your light.

Are you asking for the good?

Have you ever had a day when it seems like the world is full of unpleasant 
people …. ? Hmmmm – if that happens again, check out your side of 
the interactions. I’m just sayin’ …

Oh… and it’s OK – we all have those days and isn’t it fantastic that we can 
choose to do something about it! Yay!

Have a dance inside your own kaleidoscope

Do you remember looking through a kaleidoscope as a kid?  I loved it – all the different shapes 
and colors.  It’s made up of two Greek words meaning beautiful and form.  Have you ever been
 in the middle of something serious, like an argument, where suddenly the absurdity of it causes 
you to burst out laughing?  In that moment a whole new array of possibilities can come flooding 
in.  Tell yourself that the next time you catch yourself feeling angry and frustrated you’ll think of 
a kaleidoscope.  Or, even better, go get a kaleidoscope and keep it nearby, within easy reach as a
 reminder to look for something new and different and maybe even beautiful instead of the same
 old disagreements.

Easy breezy!

Do you make things hard or easy?  Let’s
 take something in your life that you’d
 like to change because you know it would 
have a profound effect on your life.

Maybe you’d like to lose weight or just 
feel better about your body.  The hard 
way is to spend lots of money, invest in 
books and classes and equipment,
 rearrange your entire day, maybe even 
week … I could go on and on, right? 
What if you decided to go for a
 30-minute walk every day?  If you
haven’t been exercising, wouldn’t that
 make a difference?  One, simple, easy
step forward.  Makes me want to giggle.

It’s a brand new day, baby!

Are your days an adventure or do they
 simply run one-into-the-other?  It’s
hard to get excited or look forward to 
your day if it’s the latter.  Even
harder to find anything light or 
humorous in your 24 hours.

Mary Morrissey, creator of Life 
greets the morning by saying, “It’s a 
brand, new, baby day!”  Makes it sound
 like it’s full of possibility, doesn’t 
it?  Try saying that tomorrow morning, 
or make up your own inspirational 
salutation.  Then, look for the
 revelations the day might offer up.

Have a Richer Life By Seeing the Glass Half Full

I recently saw an old Jim Carrey movie, “Yes Man”
where he went from feeling down and uninspired to
saying “yes” to everything. In the beginning, his
 life improved greatly, just because he got rid of
 so much negativity. Eventually, he had to learn 
how to discern between simply saying “yes” without
thinking and saying it because it was the best

Seeing a glass as half full is more positive than
seeing it as half empty. We can also notice that 
the glass still has room for more! I recommend we
evaluate each situation, lean toward the
 optimistic response and tap into our inner wisdom.

Are you doing the right thing today?

“Always do right. This will gratify some people
and astonish the rest.” ~ Mark Twain

What does it mean to “do right”? It might mean
that you have to let go of being right. That can
be a biggie for some of us. We want to argue our
points and come out on top. That doesn’t always
work because it can hold up progress and there may
not be a clear right or wrong. While we might be
able to justify our point of view, so can the
other person. Sometimes it is better to step back
for a greater good.

How do we know we are doing the right thing? 
Because it feels good or at least better than not 
doing it. While it will please some, it should
 feel true and honorable to you. The fact that it
 might surprise others has more to say about them
 and their own integrity. If it is perceived as 
unexpected at least it will be delightfully 

Are you comparing yourself to other women?

There is a great line attributed simply to ancient
philosophy: “Comparison is the death (or thief) of 

What happens when we compare ourselves either to
someone we perceive as “better” or “not as good”
as us? It just sucks the happiness right out of
the moment. Whether it’s about education or money
or appearance, either we suddenly feel badly about
ourselves or we might feel superior to someone
else – neither of which feels good.

What can we do to avoid that? Focus on ourselves.
 Make each day an opportunity to improve on some
aspect of our lives. Our purpose on Earth is not
to compare, but to make each day or own personal
best, in whatever way we can. It works out better
that way and it’s much less exhausting.
