“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line.”
~ Lucille Ball

Most people who know me would never guess that I started out quite shy and can still be a little reluctant in certain situations.

However, the writer Anais Nin said it best:

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

Somewhere in my early childhood I decided I needed to get over my self-consciousness because there was a big, beautiful world waiting for me out there and I knew it was up to me to take advantage of it.  It was sometimes uncomfortable, but, among other things, I was an exchange student to Brazil. I was 16 and thought it would be lots of fun to go away for a year.  Sometime during my second week in an unfamiliar country I felt lost and out of my comfort zone — big time!  All I wanted to do was run home with my tail between my legs.  I had no idea how I would survive.  Well, I did and I actually thrived.

Another experience was what I call the “black hole” time in my life. I was in my mid 30′s with 3 small children (I had 3 in four years!) and I lost my sense of self.  I was scared, angry, plagued by anxiety, and wondering if I would make it through the day.  I did and vowed never to be in that space again.

Then there was my graceless divorce after 19 years of marriage. To say it wasn’t pretty is an understatement.  Part of the fall-out was the devastating effect on my relationship with my sons and daughter.  I wasn’t sure how, or if, I would get through.  I didn’t know how I would support myself both emotionally and financially.  Still, I went on to design an amazing life and I now have all three children very much in my life in warm, loving relationships.

I had to put one step in front of the other to get out of overwhelm, out of self-doubt, and out of despair. I learned how to reach for the tools inside to be enthusiastic, to see the glass as half-full and have fun, to love myself and to advocate pleasure, no matter what, and I can show you how to live the life you want, the life you long for.

My background includes a Masters degree in Nursing, graduate of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program in Worcester, MA , student of many alternative therapies, and a successful business owner.  All that barely scratches the surface of the life experiences I have collected and continue to learn from and engage in with gusto.
